TOSHIBA PRESENTS Alexion™ / Access Edition, A NEW 4-ROW MULTISLICE CT SCANNER WITH NEXT-GENERATION DOSE REDUCTION TECHNOLOGY

Alexion™

The new 4-row multislice CT scanner Alexion™ / Access Edition delivers "Maximum Performance, Minimum Space", with next-generation dose reduction technology, easy operation, and advanced applications.

Otawara, Tochigi, Japan, January 23, 2012 - Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation will introduce Alexion™ / Access Edition, a new 4-row multislice CT scanner incorporating next-generation dose reduction technology, in selected international markets in February 2012.
Built on the successful 16-row Alexion platform introduced in November 2010 and with over 310 orders to date worldwide, Alexion™ / Access Edition sets a new standard in Toshiba's entry-level multislice CT range. This new CT scanner has the following features:
- AIDR 3D: Next-generation dose reduction technology
- Navi Mode: Easy-to-use guided operation
- State-of-the-art SURETechnologies and advanced applications
- Smallest possible footprint (just 10.4 m2), minimizing site renovation time and cost

Next-Generation Dose Reduction Technology
Originally developed for Toshiba's flagship scanner Aquilion ONE™, AIDR 3D (Adaptive Iterative Dose Reduction 3D) is provided as a standard feature in Alexion™ / Access Edition. AIDR 3D is a sophisticated algorithm that has been specially designed to operate in both the three-dimensional reconstruction data and raw data domains. The collective AIDR 3D process ensures robust noise reduction, which is essential for achieving ultra-low-dose examinations in routine clinical CT imaging. AIDR 3D can be routinely applied in all clinical acquisition modes and is able to reduce image noise by up to 50 percent while maintaining excellent image quality, resulting in dose reduction of up to 75 percent.

Integrated, Robust Dose Management
The integration of dose reduction technologies is essential for optimal dose management. AIDR 3D has therefore been seamlessly integrated with SUREExposure™ 3D, Toshiba's automatic tube current modulation software. SUREExposure 3D modulates the exposure for each patient based on a preset target level of image quality. When combined with AIDR 3D, X-ray exposure is automatically reduced before the scan, while maintaining the preprogrammed image quality adjusted based on the expected level of noise reduction. This combination provides a unique solution for robust dose management.

Easy to use "Navi Mode" operation
Alexion™ / Access Edition offers unique Navi Mode operation which guides the operator through every step of the examination with state-of-the-art computer graphics and animation. In addition, a newly developed intelligent filming function automatically compiles images in a predefined layout for fast and efficient workflow. Navi Mode is perfectly suited for novice users and part-time operators who may be required to perform scanning outside normal working hours, allowing all users to take advantage of the high performance of this multislice CT scanner.

Advanced Applications (Option)
Many of the advanced applications originally developed for Toshiba's premium-level CT scanners have been made available for Alexion™ / Access Edition. Fat Index View automatically calculates the ratio of visceral to subcutaneous fat as a prognostic indicator of metabolic syndrome. Lung Volume Analysis automatically detects and measures low-attenuation areas in the lung that may be indicative of emphysema. Total lung volume and low-attenuation volumes are calculated and displayed in 3D.

Minimal Space Requirements
Delivering powerful performance in a small space, Alexion™ / Access Edition has been designed with a footprint of just 10.4 m2. Thanks in part to its flexible siting requirements, Alexion™ / Access Edition can be up and running in a remarkably short time.
